Installation and available images

EDIS provides a customer-run installer starting from Debian 13. It downloads the current stable RouterOS v7 CHR disk image and replaces the VPS system disk. This is not a preselected CHR checkout template or a normal ISO installation.

  1. Order a KVM VPS and install Debian 13.
  2. EDIS recommends IDE disk and E1000 network emulation for compatibility. Apply virtual-hardware changes with the VPS powered off, then start it again.
  3. Back up anything you need. Run the documented EDIS CHR installer over SSH; it replaces the system disk and restarts the VPS.
  4. Use VNC to set the administrator password and the assigned IP address, gateway and DNS. Secure management access before opening Winbox.
  5. Choose a CHR license for your required rate and maintain RouterOS updates yourself.

CHR on KVM

MikroTik CHR is RouterOS for virtual machines, including KVM. Start with at least 1 GB RAM as recommended by MikroTik and size CPU for your traffic and rules.

Routes, VPNs and firewall rules

Configure the router for your topology. RouterOS routing features do not imply an EDIS BGP session, IP transit arrangement or managed VPN service.

License rate and host connectivity

CHR Free is limited to 1 Mbps upload per interface; P1 to 1 Gbps and P10 to 10 Gbps. P-Unlimited removes the license rate cap, but does not guarantee VPS throughput.

Questions before you choose

How do I install CHR?

Choose a KVM plan, install Debian 13 and follow the EDIS CHR guide. The disk-image installer replaces existing disk contents; network and administrator setup follow in VNC.

Is a paid RouterOS license included?

No paid CHR license is included in the displayed VPS price. MikroTik provides a rate-limited Free tier and separate paid tiers; its licensing page gives current terms and prices.

Can I use it for VPN or routing?

Yes, CHR provides RouterOS networking features. You configure the guest and its security; routing features do not grant an external BGP peering arrangement.

Is setup completely automatic?

The image installation is scripted, but you run it and finish password and network configuration yourself. No EDIS staff intervention is described in the documented workflow.

Who manages the operating system?

EDIS operates the host infrastructure and platform. You administer the guest OS, software, firewall, updates, application security and backups. These are self-managed VPS plans.

Can I configure more RAM or storage?

The listed plans keep their original base specification and price. At checkout you can add up to 24 GB RAM and 400 GB drive capacity for an additional charge. Maximum totals are calculated from each plan’s included resources. An existing server needs a restart for RAM changes and filesystem expansion after a disk upgrade.
