Access to EDIS Global servers from Russia is not guaranteed. Your VPS may operate normally and remain accessible from other countries while connections from your Russian internet provider fail, slow down or stop unexpectedly. Restrictions can affect you immediately or appear later.
If you purchase a VPS for use from Russia, you must be prepared to accept this connectivity risk. Our published refund conditions and applicable statutory rights remain unchanged.
If you can no longer connect
Bespoke IP Change — first review, then order
If you want to try a replacement address, we recommend Bespoke IP Change: you can inspect the available IP addresses before purchasing. A change does not guarantee restored or lasting connectivity.
- Log in to the EDIS Global control panel.
- Open the add-ons page.
- Choose Bespoke IP Change and select the VPS whose IP you want to replace. This dropdown shows your existing VPS, not the replacement addresses.
- Click Order Now to open Review & Checkout. Check Select Old IP, then open Select New IP to see the available replacement addresses.
- Review before buying. Inspect the addresses, refresh the list using its refresh icon if needed, and check candidates against cheburcheck.ru.
- Only complete checkout and payment once you have found an address you want and accepted the risk. Opening the selector or refreshing the list does not itself complete the purchase or replace your IP.
- After the new IP is assigned, manually configure it in your VPS operating system through VNC, using the address, prefix or mask, and gateway shown in Network Info. Update your application's connection address too. The old IP stops working when the replacement is assigned.
Cheburcheck is a database check, not a live connectivity test. An unlisted IP can still be inaccessible or become blocked later. Available candidate addresses may be unassigned and may not respond to ping.
You purchase at your own risk. The Bespoke IP Change fee is not refundable merely because the selected IP does not meet your expectations or fails to restore access. Applicable statutory rights remain unaffected.

Should you order—or is it better not to?
If you expect a connection that simply works flawlessly and reliably from Russia, do not order a VPS for that purpose.
Do not order if you cannot accept interruptions or loss of access, expect a standard VPN installation to keep working without adjustments, or are not ready to handle custom protocols and configurations when necessary. If you are completely new to server administration and need us to set up your VPN or resolve external blocking for you, this service is not suitable for your needs.
Ordering may make sense in these situations:
- You are testing or experimenting: you accept that the result may be unsuccessful and that the purchase has a cost, subject to our refund conditions.
- You are an experienced IT user or administrator: you can configure and troubleshoot your own applications, assess network problems and adapt your setup.
- You are a beginner willing to learn: you are comfortable following technical documentation and experimenting independently, or arranging qualified help. You accept that the connection may still fail.
Experience helps you investigate and adapt; it does not guarantee connectivity. Please avoid purchasing a VPS that you may be unable to use as intended.
Why connections from Russia may be restricted
Roskomnadzor (RKN) and Russian internet service providers may apply filtering that restricts access to foreign IP addresses, ports and protocols. TSPU filtering equipment uses deep packet inspection (DPI) to classify traffic. Restrictions can affect websites, SSH, remote desktop and VPN services.
A restriction may target a single address, a larger IP range, a port or a protocol. EDIS Global address ranges may already be affected. A new address or a different server location therefore does not necessarily solve the problem.
Encryption does not hide every VPN fingerprint
An encrypted VPN connection can still have recognisable characteristics in its connection handshake and packet exchanges. These characteristics are often called a protocol fingerprint. A filtering system may identify the type of traffic without decrypting its contents.
This means a VPN can be filtered even when its IP address is not individually blocked. Moving the same application to another port or buying another IP does not guarantee access. Research on OpenVPN fingerprinting (English) explains this distinction.
Possible signs of filtering
- The server is reachable from Europe or another country but not from Russia.
- A TCP connection starts, then stalls after a small transfer, for example approximately 12–16 KB.
- VPN sessions fail, disconnect unexpectedly or work only intermittently.
- Particular ports or protocols are inaccessible while other traffic works.
- Ping succeeds, but an SSH, HTTPS or VPN session fails.
Cloudflare documented approximately 16 KB transfer restrictions from Russian ISPs beginning on 9 June 2025 (English). This is an example, not a universal threshold.
These symptoms suggest a possibility; they do not prove RKN filtering. Server firewalls, application errors, routing faults and other network problems can produce similar symptoms. Successful outbound traffic also does not establish that inbound connections work.
Why yesterday’s successful connection is no guarantee
Results can differ between providers, regions, fixed broadband and mobile networks, and can change over time. Another customer’s experience is not a guarantee for your connection.
A working IP or protocol may become inaccessible later. We cannot promise a permanently reachable location, address or VPN protocol for Russia. See Selectel’s technical explanation of TSPU effects (English) for background.
What to test before and after ordering
Test from the connections you actually intend to use. A public location test IP is a separate endpoint: its accessibility does not prove that your assigned VPS address or application will work.
A database such as Cheburcheck can screen a candidate IP for listed restrictions. An unlisted result is not proof of reachability, and this is not a live application test. Unassigned candidate addresses may not respond because no server is using them.
After delivery, test your actual application promptly, including establishing a session and transferring data. Do not rely only on ping or an open-port check. Read the refund conditions before purchasing and keep the original deadline in mind.
Changes you can consider
None of these options guarantees restored or lasting connectivity:
- IP address: a replacement may help with an individual address block, but may fall within another affected range.
- Port: if a port such as 22, 80, 8080, 443 or 8443 is restricted, another supported port may behave differently. Protocol detection can still apply.
- Transport: try UDP instead of TCP only if your application supports it. UDP can also be filtered.
- IPv6: consider it if your VPS, internet provider and application support it. IPv6 is not inherently exempt from restrictions.
- Location: another destination may produce different results, but changing country does not guarantee access.
You or your administrator must configure your own system and applications. IP change options include a Bespoke option for selecting from available addresses. Selection does not certify accessibility. After a change, update your server’s network configuration and application endpoints. Reinstallation is an alternative, but deletes existing data.
What our support team can help with
EDIS Global does not impose VPN-specific blocking on its infrastructure. Our normal service and acceptable-use terms apply. We cannot control or remove restrictions imposed by Roskomnadzor, Russian ISPs or other external networks.
We do not provide VPN installation, custom configuration, protocol troubleshooting or assistance with bypassing external restrictions. We will still investigate reports of problems affecting our infrastructure. Suspected filtering alone is not a reason to dismiss a network fault report.
Please send your VPS IP, ISP and connection type, affected application/port/protocol, the time and time zone, the exact error, and any test results you have actually collected. Tell us whether the same application works from another network.
A small request when contacting support: please describe your own observations and include only tests you have actually performed. Avoid pasting generic diagnostic requests generated by Gemini, ChatGPT/GPT or other AI tools, especially unverified conclusions or checklists of provider-side work. A short, factual description is more useful. If you use AI to translate or organise your message, check that it faithfully reflects your results. Genuine infrastructure fault reports remain welcome.
IP changes, location changes and refunds
- Primary IPv4 change: one free change is available within 24 hours of service delivery. It does not remove existing refund eligibility within the original refund window.
- Refund: we must receive a complete eligible request within 24 hours of purchase. Conditions and exclusions apply, including a limit of one refund per 12 months.
- Location change: a one-time free replacement in another available location may be requested within the first 24 hours as an alternative to a refund. Once the replacement is provisioned, the order is no longer refundable under this policy.
Check the full Cancellation and Refund Policy before ordering, including exclusions for discounted purchases, upgrades and added Pool Traffic. External filtering does not create an extended refund guarantee. Applicable statutory rights remain unchanged.
